Industrial Visit to Varahi Underground Power House Hosangadi Udupi

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Angadi Institute of Technology & Management, Belagavi, Organized Industrial visit for 5th and 7th semester students to Varahi Underground Power House, Hosangadi Udupi on 29/11/2024. An industrial visit to the Karnataka Power Generation House was organized for Electrical and Electronics Engineering students to gain practical insights into power generation, distribution and the operational intricacies of a power plant. This visit served to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application and enhancing students to understand the power engineering concepts.

*Technical Details of Varahi under ground Power plant*

This is the first underground power plant in Asia. In the first stage, 2×115 MW generating units with Vertical Pelton type turbines manufactured by M/s. BHEL were installed and commissioned in the Varahi Under ground power house during 1989-1990. In stage II 2×115 MW generating units with Vertical Pelton type turbines were installed and commissioned by Consortium Led by M/s.Andritz hydro GmbH, Austria in the Varahi underground power house during 2009. The units have been designed for a head of 460m. Project headquarters of Varahi hydro electric project is Hosangadi, in Udupi District. Hosangadi is situated at a distance of about 70 km from Udupi(4×115MW=460MW).

The main objective of the visit is to understand the working principles of hydroelectric power plants , gain practical exposure to power generation equipment, transmission systems, control room operations and to learn about the challenges faced in large-scale power generation and solutions implemented.

Prof. Kantesh D C, HOD, Prof. Vinayachandrika Kale, Assistant Professor and Non-Teaching Staff Mr. Somashekar Patanganavar From Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department accompanied the students to the Industrial visit.
Prof. Kantesh D. C , HOD of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department would like to express a gratitude to Prof. Vinay Pattanashetti, Prof. Rajendra Ghivari, Prof. Ramesh Ashtekar, Prof. Manjushree Havannavar and Non -Teaching Staff Mr. Vishal Vantamuri for their coordination.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Spoorti Patil, Director, SAEF, Shri Raju Joshi, Administrator, SAEF, Dr. Anand Deshpande, Principal & Director, AITM for their kind support in organizing the industrial visit.

Industrial Visit to 220KV Switching Station Kanbargi and Wind Power Plant Kakati, Belagavi

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Angadi Institute of Technology & Management, Belagavi, Organized Industrial visit for 3rd semester students to 220KV Switching Station Kanbargi and Wind Power Plant Kakati, Belagavi on 15/11/2024. Under the expert guidance of Mr.Bhargav, Station In charge. The objective of the visit is to provide students with a practical understanding of the operations and infrastructure involved in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, particularly from renewable sources like Wind energy.

The 220 KV Switching Station at Kanbargi plays a vital role in receiving electrical power generated from Narendra Line-1 and Narendra Line -2 and transmitting it within a region. It serves as an intermediate station that connects multiple substations and ensures the smooth flow of electricity from the power plants to the end users.

In the further part of the visit, students were taken to the Wind Power Plant which is handled by Wind World Private Limited. Wind World Private Limited is a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, focusing on wind energy generation.

The visit to the Wind Power Plant, 220 KV Switching Station Kanbargi Belagavi was an informative and enriching experience for the students. It provides practical insights into how renewable energy, specifically wind power is integrated into the national grid, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply.

This visit has not only enriched our academic journey but also inspired us to strive for excellence in our field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Prof.Rajendra Ghivari, Prof. Vinayachandrika Kale and Prof. Ramesh Ashtekar from Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department accompanied the students to the Industrial visit. Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department would like to express our gratitude to HOD, Prof. Kantesh D. C , for encouraging the students to visit the plant.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Spoorti Patil Madam, Director SAEF, Shri Raju Joshi sir, Administrator SAEF, Dr. Anand Deshpande sir, Principal & Director, AITM for their kind support in organizing the industrial visit.
